Richard Gibson
Richard F. Gibson, “Dick, 87, of rural Chippewa Falls, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at his home in the loving care of his family and St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Richard Francis Gibson was born Dec. 8, 1925 in Chippewa County to Burt and Helen (Bradt) Gibson. During W.W. 2 at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a gunner’s mate until his honorable discharge in April of 1946. After returning home Dick married his soul mate, Dolores Bourget on Dec. 26, 1946, and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Dick had worked at Uniroyal and in 1961 they moved to their farm in Eau Claire County, where they remained until 2004. In addition to working on the farm, in 1968 he built the Brown Hut Tavern which they operated for 19 years.
Dick enjoyed the bar’s patrons, many who became long time friends even after he sold the bar, and all the great memories that went with it. In younger years his favorite thing to do was play baseball as an outfielder, and his hobbies were hunting, fishing, gambling, and tinkering with machinery. He especially enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. He was an active member of the Eau Claire American Legion Post # 53, where he served one year as Commander. He was also a V.F.W. member.

Dick is survived by his wife, Dolores and their 7 children; Diane (Louie) Hoel of Fall Creek, Rick (Linda) Gibson of New Auburn, Mark Gibson of Fall Creek, Shelly Bergsholm of Fargo, ND, Laurie Gibson of Eau Claire, Patricia Schunk of Eau Claire, Nancy (Jessie) Taitano of Chippewa Falls; brother, Larry (Bonnie) Gibson of Eau Claire; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Gibson, Jo Gibson, Elaine (Pete) Peterson, Donna Bourget; brothers-in-law, Jack (Jo) Bourget and Edward (Bonnie) Bourget.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Janice, grandson Mathew Michaud, parents Helen and Burt Gibson and brothers, Lloyd, Raymond and Donald.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Joseph’s Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dick and the family.
